Salzach breakthrough - a wild and romantic natural spectacle

After the last ice age, the Salzach dug about 70 meters deep into the flint sand here, leaving behind an imposing steep slope with numerous caves where the rare Aesculapian snake, jackdaws, bats and eagle owls live. The imposing Kreuzfelsen rock is steeped in legend and the "Hund", a heaped-up dam made of granite blocks, is just as worth seeing.
