The municipality stretches around 60 kilometers south of Munich in the idyllic Isarwinkel. Imposing mountain peaks such as the Brauneck (1556 m) surround one of the largest municipalities in Germany in terms of area, through which the wild Isar meanders and gives the region its unmistakable landscape. Neben 42 km gepflegten Loipen im Ortsbereich und insgesamt 112 km Loipen im Nahbereich, gibt es auch eine rund 1,5 km lange Nachtloipe mit Flutlicht nördlich der Talstation der Brauneckbergbahn bis zu den Gilgenhöfen.
